Elsewhere
A still alpine lake with a ridge of mountains rising behind it

Journeys, slowly designed

The outside is calling.

A lake at first light. A path above the clouds. A little time somewhere that stays with you.

The planner

Pick a landscape. Pick your days.

A paddle at first light, a pass at dawn, a creek in the ferns. Choose your landscape and see where a day—or a week—could take you.

Field notes

Notes on going slowly

The best itinerary leaves an afternoon empty on purpose.

A good trip is mostly weather, light and the pace of your own feet. Fewer stops, longer looks, and days that begin outside.

We start with the landscape. A lake asks for mornings. A ridge asks for early starts and a proper rest in the middle. A forest asks you to lower your voice. The itinerary follows from that, never the other way round.

Seven days is not seven times one day. By the fourth, the list has loosened and the walking has found its rhythm. That is the point of staying longer, and the reason the longer plans here look different from the short ones.

Rule one
Begin outside, preferably before breakfast.
Rule two
Never schedule the whole afternoon.
Rule three
Finish the day somewhere with a view of the dark.
